A native of Woodbury, Ga, Derek graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta in 1990, and from the University of Georgia School of Law, in Athens, in 1995.

He is admitted to practice in Georgia and South Carolina, and has lived in Beaufort since 1997. He practices real estate law at Gilbert Law Firm LLC.

Derek also serves on the Board of Directors for the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce; the Board of Directors for the Beaufort Womens Center; the Finance Committee for Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity; and the Beaufort County Airports Board.

Derek and his wife, Tracy, were married in 1991, and live on Ladys Island with their five children, Mary Katherine, Thomas, Matthew, Mark and Annabel, and their dog Bobbie Lou.

James was drafted into the Marine Corps in June 1969. He retired as a sergeant major in July 1996, after 27 years of service, while stationed at MCRD Parris Island/Eastern Recruiting Region.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the East Coast Drill Instructors Association; National Chaplain for the Montford Point Marine Association and an Executive Committee member; and Chairman of the Sheldon Township Community Partnership Committee. James is currently the Vice President of the Parris Island Armed Services Bank.

He is married to Gwendolyn M. Moore, also a retired Marine sergeant major, and they have one daughter, Jammie.

After graduating in 2002 from Clemson University with a BS degree in Psychology, Robert went to work for the Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. Upon completing their training program and serving as a Co-operator, he was promoted to Store Operator in 2005. He has been a Store Operator in stores in Georgia and South Carolina.

Robert is the Store Operator for the Piggly Wiggly in Port Royal, and has been in that position since October 2010. Robert got his start in the grocery business in 1997 in Port Royal while in high school.

He has considered Beaufort his home since 1991, when his father was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station.
