The Historical & Museum Society supports the Parris Island Museum by providing for the preservation, perpetuation, publication and display of manuscripts, books, relics, pictures and other objects of historical significance.

Jay graduated from recruit training at Parris Island in 1957, from Brown University in 1963, and from Suffolk Law School in 1969. He practiced law in Newburyport, MA, for 26 years until appointed as a judge of the Probate and Family Court in 1996.

Jay is the author of "Court-Martial at Parris Island," published by the Naval Institute Press and the University of South Carolina Press. His wife, Pamela, also an author, and Jay retired in 2006 and moved to Beaufort that same year. He was elected to the Board of Directors later in that year.
