Parris Island Directions

From I-95 South:

  • Take Exit 8 from I-95.
  • Merge right onto US 278 East, going toward Hilton Head.
  • Approx. 5 miles, turn LEFT on SC-141.
  • About 4 miles, turn LEFT on SC-170 N (Okatie Hwy).
  • Continue about 10 miles. Turn RIGHT on Savannah Hwy / SC-802 (the first traffic light after the bridge over the Broad River). Continue on SC-802, bearing right.
  • About 4 miles from the light, take the off-ramp to Parris Island on your right-hand side to the front gate.
  • From the gate, proceed across the causeway and follow signage towards “Mainside” and the Museum.
  • The Museum is on the corner of Panama Street and Olongapo St.

From I-95 North:

  • Take Exit 33 from I-95 onto Route 17.
  • Follow Route 17 to Highway 21 South, toward Beaufort.
  • Follow Highway 21 South until you reach the intersection of Route 280, after passing Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
  • Continue approximately 6 miles. Route 280 turns into Route 802. You will see a sign for Parris Island.
  • The off-ramp to Parris Island is on the right side of the road and will take you to the front gate.
  • From the gate, proceed across the causeway and follow signage towards “Mainside” and the Museum.
  • The Museum is on the corner of Panama Street and Olongapo St.

Driving Tips

Follow the posted speed limit when on the Depot. In most areas it is 25mph. If passing troops, reduce your speed to the posted limit.

Visitors needing to have a pass issued at the front gate can expect a delay if arriving on a Thursday or Friday morning during a graduation week.

The public is welcome to visit Parris Island. As an active military base, access may be dependent upon current security needs. At the front gate, tell the guard you wish to visit the Museum. Be prepared to show a driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and proof of vehicle registration.

Hours: 10 am – 4:30 pm daily, closed New Year’s, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
