History

The American Quarter was first issued in 1769, the coin had a draped bust on its obverse and a small wing-spread eagle on its reverse. Eventually, in 1804 the coin was revised, and the small eagle was replaced by a larger one.

With time, the American Quarter saw more than one revision; the timeline of these revisions in history followed from 1804 to 1930, with the Reverse featuring everything from a capped bust to different variants of the standing Liberty.

The most recent version of the American Quarter is the Lincoln Quarter, which was designed by John Flanagan and first issued in 1932; its original version endured till the 80s. The obverse held the profile of a left-facing George Washington and the inscription “LIBERTY” hanging over his head and the date below.

Although the present-day coin is minted in Cupro nickel-clad copper, it was initially struck in 90% fine silver before it was discontinued in 1964 for the cupro-nickel composition.

Since its issuance in 1932, the Washington Quarter has had many series over the past years, with America the Beautiful series as the fifth installment of the Washington Quarters, which ran from 2010 to 2021.

The 2019 Quarters is the ninth part of America the Beautiful series; it features historical monuments germane to American history and culture.

From Texas and Idaho to Massachusetts, North Mariana Island, and Guam, the 2019 Quarter was created as an honorary nod to the four historical parks and one Wilderness, representing strong sentiment in American history and culture.

America the Beautiful series held five different images on its reverse each year and the 2019 Quarter is no different.

Designed by Chris Costello, The San Antonio mission quarter was released in August 2019. It celebrated the largest Spanish-concentrated mission in American history and its contribution to irrigation.

The River of No Return is the only Wilderness in the 2019 quarter series. It holds the image of the site named after the American Senator Frank Church, a major land preservation advocate. Emily Damstra designed it.

The other two coins were named after the national parks– American Memorial Park and the War in the Pacific historical park. The reverse designers were Donna Weaver for the American Memorial Park Quarter and Joel Iskowitz.

The Lowell Quarter, named after the Lowell historical park, was designed by Joel Iskowitz and was released in June 2019 with over 500,000,000 million copies across five Mints.

This historical park underscores the role played by the Lowell “Mill Girls” in the industrial revolution. The Lowell “Mill Girls” are recognized mainly as the proponents of safe working culture, advocating for better working conditions and touting the importance of education.

To honor their extraordinary addition to industrial processes and their equally remarkable precedent set for the labor union, the United States Mints issued the mint of 2019 Quarters with Lowell’s “Mill girl” in the foreground of its reverse.

With over 500,000,000 copies minted, the Lowell Quarter is valued at $5 to $ 90 on its circulated copies, while its Super Gem grade West-point minted coin can make you up to $450 richer.
